2. Acceptance of terms

You must be at least 18 years of age and legally capable of entering into binding contracts under Malaysian law to enrol in any Course.
If you are enrolling on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to this Agreement.
3. Service description
Backprop Lab delivers structured technical education in AI engineering. Our current courses are:
- Python and Data Engineering for AI Work (10 weeks, RM 550)
- Transformer Architectures and Language Model Training (18 weeks, RM 2,120)
- AI Systems Engineering Capstone Track (26 weeks, RM 4,700)
Courses are delivered primarily online. Learners based in Kuala Lumpur may attend optional in-person sessions at our KL Gateway office. We reserve the right to make reasonable changes to course content, schedule, or delivery format.
4. Enrolment
Enrolment is confirmed upon receipt of full payment or agreement to a documented payment arrangement. Places are limited and are allocated in the order enquiries are confirmed.
We may decline an enrolment if we assess that stated prerequisites are not met. We will communicate this decision in writing and provide a full refund of any amount paid.
5. Learner responsibilities
- You are responsible for ensuring that your computing environment meets the technical requirements communicated at enrolment.
- Assignments must represent your own work. Submitting code generated by a third party as your own, without disclosure, is not acceptable and may result in removal from the Course without refund.
- You may not share Course Materials, assignment specifications, or code review feedback with individuals who are not enrolled in the same cohort.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of any access credentials provided for the shared cluster.
- You must engage with the course in a manner that is respectful of instructors, mentors, and other learners.
6. Intellectual property
Course Materials: All syllabi, reading lists, assignment specifications, and instructional content produced by Backprop Lab remain our intellectual property. Enrolled Learners are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use these materials for the purpose of completing the Course.
Learner Work: All code, write-ups, and other materials produced by you during a Course remain your intellectual property. We do not claim ownership of Learner Work. The written assessment record we produce documents what was completed; ownership of the underlying work is yours.
Third-party materials: Some assignments reference open-access papers and publicly licensed datasets. You are responsible for complying with the licence terms of any third-party materials you use in your work.
7. Payment
Course fees are denominated in Malaysian Ringgit (RM). Fees include all materials, live sessions, assignment review, cluster access (where applicable), and the written assessment record.
Refunds: A full refund is provided if you withdraw before the second session of the Course. No refund is provided after the second session has taken place. If we cancel a course cohort, a full refund is provided.
Payment terms and any instalment arrangements are agreed in writing at enrolment. Late payment may result in suspension of access to course resources.
8. Disclaimers
Courses are provided as educational programmes. No claim is made about employment outcomes, salary changes, or any other post-course result. The written assessment record documents completion of the programme; it is not a professional accreditation or industry certification.
Course Materials are provided in good faith and based on the knowledge and experience of the instruction team. They do not constitute professional advice in any regulated field.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Malaysian law, our total liability to you in connection with any Course shall not exceed the Course fee paid by you for that Course.
We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental losses, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of opportunity, or loss of business. This limitation does not apply in cases of gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Backprop Lab and its instructors from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal costs) arising from your breach of this Agreement or your use of Course Materials in a manner not authorised by this Agreement.
11. Termination
You may withdraw from a Course at any time. Refunds are subject to Section 7.
We may terminate your enrolment if you breach Section 5, without refund. We will give notice of the specific breach before terminating, except where the breach involves sharing of access credentials or Course Materials.
Sections 6, 8, 9, 10, and 12 survive termination of this Agreement.
12. Dispute resolution and governing law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising under or in connection with this Agreement shall first be subject to an informal resolution process: you notify us in writing at [email protected] and we will respond within 14 business days.
If informal resolution fails, disputes shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia, with Kuala Lumpur as the agreed venue.
13. General provisions
- Entire agreement: This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and Backprop Lab with respect to your enrolment, and supersedes all prior discussions.
- Severability: If any provision of this Agreement is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
- Waiver: Failure to enforce any provision of this Agreement does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce it subsequently.
- Assignment: You may not assign your enrolment or any rights under this Agreement without our written consent.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For enrolled Learners, material changes will be communicated by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued participation in a Course after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
